Barron brings more than 35 years of corporate and securities law experience, including roles as general counsel and executive committee member for three publicly traded oil and gas companies: Bill Barrett Corporation, Cimarex Energy and Coterra Energy. In those positions, he advised boards of directors, managed regulatory risks and oversaw major transactions such as IPOs and mergers.

At Beatty & Wozniak, Barron will provide strategic counsel across practice groups, mentor attorneys and advise leadership on opportunities for growth. Firm leaders said his in-house perspective will strengthen client service and enhance business judgment in the energy sector.

“After working with the exceptional attorneys and other professionals at Beatty & Wozniak for over 20 years as a client, I am excited to work with them as general counsel in residence,” Barron said. “Helping mentor the firm’s talented attorneys and working with the firm’s clients allows me the opportunity to continue to bring strategic business leadership and growth to the oil and gas industry.”

Bret Sumner, a member of the firm’s executive committee, said Barron’s track record spans companies of all sizes. “He has counseled companies from startups to multibillion-dollar corporations and understands the challenges of scaling and growing in today’s energy sector,” Sumner said. “His insights will help us deliver counsel that is legally sound, commercially strategic and deeply valuable to our clients.”

Firm officials noted that Beatty & Wozniak is the first energy law firm in the United States to adopt a general counsel in residence model, a structure only recently introduced by two major international firms.

Barron began his career at Bearman Talesnick & Clowdus Professional Corp., later becoming a partner at Patton Boggs LLP where he co-founded the corporate securities department in Denver. He went on to serve as executive vice president and general counsel at Bill Barrett Corporation, where he guided the company through its IPO and rapid growth. He later joined Cimarex Energy, helping secure investment-grade financing and leading its $17 billion merger with Cabot Oil & Gas to form Coterra Energy. Most recently, he worked as an independent business consultant.
