Colorado has joined a multistate lawsuit challenging new Trump administration tariffs on goods from more than 80 countries that account for 99.4% of U.S. imports.
The lawsuit argues that tariffs imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 exceed the administration’s authority and violate the Administrative Procedure Act. The case was filed Aug. 3 in the U.S. Court of International Trade.
The latest tariffs set rates of 10% or 12.5% on goods from nearly every economy that trades with the United States. The administration imposed them after earlier tariffs were rejected by federal courts.
“These tariffs will be passed on to Coloradans already struggling to pay the price of essential consumer goods,” Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said.
A Federal Reserve Bank of New York analysis found that U.S. consumers and businesses paid nearly 90% of tariff costs in 2025, according to the attorney general’s office.
Colorado is among 25 states participating in the lawsuit.
