The DHA Joli project at 988 Bryant St. in Denver represents a transformative model for mixed-use, community-focused development. Led by the Denver Housing Authority, the 298,555-square-foot building includes 126 affordable housing units and a 6,900-square-foot food incubator designed to support local entrepreneurs. Shaw Construction managed the complex build, working closely with OZ Architecture, MEP Engineering and key subcontractor JDI to integrate residential, commercial and outdoor spaces within a tight urban footprint.
The project overcame significant challenges, including linking Joli to the under-construction DHA Flo building via an 84,000-square-foot shared parking garage. Merging concrete and steel systems required exact sequencing and technical coordination. The food hub’s specialized mechanical and safety needs added further complexity, as did the rooftop garden, which required unique structural and waterproofing solutions.
The result is a vibrant community asset that addresses housing, employment and food access needs in the Sun Valley neighborhood. Residents benefit from energy-efficient units, a rooftop garden, large family housing options and direct access to job-creating amenities. Shaw Construction’s emphasis on collaboration, safety and innovation enabled timely delivery of this multifaceted project, which now serves as a model for sustainable, inclusive urban development.
