The Vail Health Precourt Healing Center in Edwards, Colorado, is a 43,000-square-foot, three-story behavioral health facility dedicated to serving adolescents and adults in crisis. Designed to address a critical care gap in mountain communities, the center offers 28 private patient rooms with anti-ligature plumbing fixtures across all patient bathrooms, outdoor patios, family spaces and full-service support areas. MTech Mechanical collaborated closely with Haselden, WSP and Davis Architects to deliver mechanical and plumbing systems that prioritize patient safety and operational efficiency.
MTech’s scope included gas-fired boilers, a central custom air-handling unit, 75 variable air volume (VAV) boxes with hot water reheat and extensive snowmelt systems.
Challenges included navigating complex behavioral health requirements, tight site logistics and ensuring healthcare-level cleanliness throughout construction. Innovative tools such as building information modeling (BIM) coordination, Holobuilder construction progress management and a Trimble construction layout system enabled precise planning and execution, while 90% of piping was prefabricated to optimize efficiency.
This facility is the first of its kind between the Front Range and Grand Junction, providing 24-hour inpatient care close to home. With support from Vail Health, the Vail Health Foundation and Speak Up Reach Out, the project reflects a deep commitment to community well-being. It sets a new standard for behavioral health infrastructure in Colorado.
