DENVER — Girls Athletic Leadership School Denver is offering experiential programs in health care, conservation and entrepreneurship as part of its middle school curriculum.
Through a partnership with Denver Health, students tour operating rooms, meet surgeons and use orthopedic tools and surgical robotics. The program introduces students to medical careers in which women remain underrepresented.
Students also travel to Mission: Wolf in Westcliffe, where they camp, complete conservation projects, study ecosystems and interact with rescued wolves. A partnership with REDI Lab allows students to develop ideas, test solutions and pitch concepts tied to real-world challenges.
“When students experience learning in the real world, they gain confidence, discover new passions and begin to see themselves as future scientists, entrepreneurs, health care professionals and leaders,” Executive Director Timeri Tolnay said.
GALS Denver incorporates academics, movement, counseling and social-emotional learning. The free public all-girls school opened in 2010 and is part of Denver Public Schools. GALS Inc. also operates a middle school in Los Angeles.
