Located at 1921 E Yampa St. in Colorado Springs, the School air conditioning addition brought long-overdue climate control to one of the district’s last schools without air conditioning. Completed in August 2024, the 44,000-square-foot project improved comfort and productivity for more than 200 K-5 students at the historic Title I campus, where nearly 90% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Led by in partnership with Colorado Springs School District 11, the project replaced outdated unit ventilators and ceiling-hung blower coils with like-for-like models equipped with modern direct expansion (DX) cooling.

Engineers at designed upgrades to heating systems and energy-efficient condensing units, while ensured seamless integration with the school’s historic structure. Enhanced Mechanical, a minority-owned subcontractor, contributed mechanical insulation expertise.

The project’s success hinged on precise scheduling within a tight summer timeline, rooftop installations that minimized structural impact, and the careful handling of asbestos discovered during construction. The improvements also extended to the kitchen, where a new Class 1 hood accommodates commercial equipment. These upgrades support student wellness and academic success and represent a sustainable, cost-effective investment in community infrastructure.
