In Brief:

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — A five-story expansion at UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital has been completed, adding 340,000 square feet of medical space as faces a projected shortage of up to 2,400 physicians by 2030.

The project, built by Layton Construction, began in the summer of 2023 and includes a new cancer center, expanded stroke and and 14 additional emergency department beds.

More than 500,000 labor hours were logged during construction. At peak activity, about 250 workers representing 16 trades were on site.

“Several of our team members live in Highlands Ranch, and contributing to enhanced patient care in our own community is deeply meaningful,” said , Layton Construction’s director of business development.

The cancer center includes a linear accelerator used for radiation treatment. Installation of the equipment required construction crews to pour 6-foot-thick concrete walls while maintaining hospital operations and patient care.

“Being good neighbors is imperative to all of us at Layton,” Ryan said. “To allow caregivers to focus on what they need to do, we take any additional steps necessary to minimize any distractions.”

The expansion is intended to increase in the growing Highlands Ranch community and surrounding areas.
