The Colorado Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) project transformed a 19,666-square-foot facility in Aurora into a comprehensive center for senior care, delivering medical, dental, therapeutic and social services under one roof. Led by Bryan Construction Inc., with design by RTA Architects and engineering by MGA Structural Engineers, the renovation integrated exam rooms, a dental suite, a pharmacy, therapy spaces, a memory care room and communal areas designed for both dignity and functionality.
Key challenges included a late-stage need for additional handrails to meet state accreditation standards. The team expedited procurement, cutting a six-to-eight-week process down to 12 days through close coordination with the client and suppliers. Fire protection, electrical and HVAC systems were also upgraded, and advanced fire-rated materials were installed to meet new occupancy classification requirements.
Innovative practices such as color-coded box walk system improved communication and coordination, and safety remained a top priority, with frequent walkthroughs and security enhancements.
The project’s sustainable reuse of existing materials, coupled with its focus on holistic elder care, ensures long-term benefits for Aurora’s aging population. Through collaboration and innovation, the team delivered a facility that enhances both care quality and community connection.
