Dan Caplis, 67, has been litigating personal injury cases since 1983, but he initially had another career in mind. “I was going to be a priest,” he said. “I was going to go to the seminary.”
Caplis changed his mind, of course, and embarked on his true calling in personal injury law and his Greenwood Village-based firm. “I just saw it as just a way to serve and help people in need that would also get me into court a lot, because I wanted to be a real trial lawyer.”
In his 40-plus-year career, Caplis has served as counsel for numerous cases resulting in large settlements, and the courtroom continues to inspire him. “You have the power to make bad guys sit in front of a judge and jury and testify under oath,” he said. “To me, that’s the ultimate power to balance the scales in America, because most of my clients are normal working folks, and we can bring the heads of these corporations and people who have really harmed them into a courtroom and have that day of reckoning.”
