DURANGO, Colo. — Fungal Solutions-Wildfire Ltd. plans to establish its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Durango after joining Colorado’s Rural Jump-Start program.
The company designs, manufactures and installs landscaping products intended to reduce wildfire risks and erosion. Its products use local fungal cultures in fire barriers, erosion control features and water-retention systems.
Fungal Solutions-Wildfire will receive a $15,000 grant and four years of tax benefits to help launch its operations. Eligible employees also will receive a state personal income tax credit while the company participates in the program.
“This grant support has a meaningful impact not just on my business, but on Southwest Colorado and the Mountain West as a whole,” owner Dr. Lauren Czaplicki said.
Czaplicki said the company works with fire mitigation businesses, landowners and landscapers on wildfire and drought preparation. Its products are designed to retain water in soil, reduce erosion and decrease water use.
The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado sponsored the company’s application to the Rural Jump-Start program.
The state program offers grants and tax incentives to new businesses that start or relocate in participating rural areas. Participating companies must create jobs and sell goods or services outside their designated Rural Jump-Start zones.
