Hotel Alpenrock Breckenridge reopened as a reimagined mountain retreat following a transformative $67 million renovation that balanced modern hospitality with environmental stewardship. Located at 550 Village Rd in Breckenridge, the 217,576-square-foot hotel underwent a top-to-bottom redesign that updated 208 guestrooms, added a two-story lobby, new event spaces and sustainable upgrades. all while remaining open to guests throughout construction.
Originally built in the 1980s, the former Great Divide Lodge was revitalized by MIG Real Estate and designed by OZ Architecture with interiors that reflect the area’s mining heritage and natural surroundings.
Challenges included maintaining guest safety and comfort during ongoing work. Hyder Construction, supported by RTM Engineering Consultants and R&R Engineers, carefully staged construction and created temporary check-in and circulation areas. Edge Construction led specialty subcontracting efforts, ensuring high-quality finishes and craftsmanship.
Environmental goals guided the project’s material selection, mechanical upgrades and energy-efficient features, including new windows, EV charging stations and dark-sky-compliant lighting. The redesigned spaces, from a fifth-floor hot tub to a new street-level retail area and a speakeasy bar, enhance guest experiences and create year-round value for the community. Hotel Alpenrock has emerged as a vibrant, sustainable hub for visitors and locals alike by honoring the building’s legacy while preparing it for the future.
