Michelle Berger is a partner at Spencer Fane LLP whose career combines nearly 30 years of experience in construction law with a background in civil engineering. She advises engineering firms, construction companies, developers and property owners on contracts, risk management, land use, employment matters and dispute resolution, earning a reputation as a trusted legal and business adviser.
Berger’s engineering background gives her a practical understanding of the challenges facing clients from project planning through completion. She has built a practice representing organizations of all sizes while helping developers navigate zoning, land use and building code issues for projects across the region.
At Spencer Fane, Berger has played a key role in the firm’s innovative leadership model. She leads the Construction Industry Market Team, bringing together attorneys across offices and practice areas to expand client services, strengthen collaboration and mentor emerging legal talent. She developed specialized committees focused on cross-marketing, thought leadership, legal resources, industry events and professional development, helping create a collaborative approach to construction law.
Berger has been recognized as an Associated General Contractors/Colorado Contractors Association Waymaker and has earned repeated recognition in Best Lawyers for Construction Law and Real Estate Law.
Her leadership extends beyond the firm through service to the Colorado Contractors Association, where she serves on the Associate Council and helped establish task forces that strengthen collaboration between the construction industry and public agencies. She also mentors future professionals through the University of Denver Sturm College of Law’s Professional Mentoring Program and serves on the Professional Advisory Board for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the South Dakota School of Mines, supporting the next generation of legal and engineering leaders.
