Stefan Stein, 68, is Mountain West chairman and Colorado partner-in-charge for Taft, which closed on the acquisition of Denver’s storied Sherman & Howard in early 2025. Formerly Sherman & Howard’s CEO, Stein was involved in the deal’s negotiations and said the merger with Cincinnati-based Taft “will sustain our success for generations to come.”

The merger also represents a new chapter in Stein’s long and varied career in law. He has worked as a federal prosecutor in the late 1980s and early 1990s, an attorney in private practice, and in-house counsel and corporate officer for Qwest Communications. Stein said his community service work with local nonprofits like Urban Peak has been just as rewarding.

“Professional success is not given; it is earned through hard work and the guidance and support of others,” Stein noted. “We must always give back and pay it forward.”
