Darren Hensley, 63, has largely built his legal practice on work on mergers and acquisitions for more than 30 years. Now a senior partner at Polsinelli’s Denver office, Hensley won the Growth Equity Deal of the Year at the 2024 Americas M&A Atlas Awards for his work on an investment in Louisiana-based Ampirical Solutions from SkyKnight Capital of San Francisco.

“Some people like to yell and spit fire and be contentious on transactions, but I take a different view,” said Hensley. “I’ll take a hardline approach for our clients as needed, but try to be respectful with it, because over the years, I’ve learned that the person across the table may be the next person that recommends you for a transaction because they like the way you worked.”

“I’ve seen people make transactions adversarial, but I don’t think they have to be,” he added. “The goal is to get both parties to a place they’re happy with at the end of the day.”
