Keith Trammell, 52, is a self-described “deal lawyer.” The partner at WilmerHale’s Denver office is a two-time winner of “Lawyer of the Year” and “Best Private Equity Lawyer” from Law Week Colorado. Trammell spearheaded Vail Resorts’ acquisition of more than 20 resorts around the country as the company pushed to make the Epic Pass national, along with numerous multi-billion-dollar deals in other industries. He’s currently representing the Nordstrom family in their effort to take the storied retailer private.
“For people in the transactional space, you’re one part business advisor, one part trusted advisor, and one part person who gets things done,” said Trammell. “We do a lot of behind the scenes work to make things happen, a lot of building trust, not only with our clients, but lawyers on the other side and parties on the other side.”
Trammell’s advice to aspiring dealmakers? “Be an honest broker,” he answered. “ If you’re not an honest broker, you’re never going to persuade, you’re never going to be able to find compromise.”
