UMB Bank is expanding in Colorado with the construction of a new flagship building in Cherry Creek.
The six-story UMB Building at Cherry Lane, First Avenue, and Clayton Lane will serve as the anchor for the broader Cherry Lane project in Cherry Creek North. The 55,000-square-foot building is expected to be completed in May 2028.
The move consolidates UMB’s commercial, private wealth management and executive teams into a single, high-end hub.
Beyond traditional office space, the building will have a full-service ground-floor branch and client entertainment areas, including two outdoor terraces on the upper floors.
“This development provides us with the unique opportunity to build a customized office from the ground up,” UMB Financial Corp. Chairman and CEO Mariner Kemper said in a statement. “Denver is UMB’s second-largest market, directly behind our Kansas City [Mo.] headquarters, and this significant local investment further signifies our continued focus on and commitment to the city.”
Developed by BMC Investments in partnership with Prism Places and Invesco Real Estate, the project is designed as a mixed-use destination. A steakhouse restaurant will occupy half of the sixth floor next to UMB’s offices.
The office building will be surrounded by 150,000 square feet of retail and 379 multifamily residential units.
“UMB’s commitment is a powerful vote of confidence in the vision we’ve created for Cherry Lane and reflects the strength and momentum of the neighborhood as a whole,” BMC Investments founding partner and CEO Matt Joblon said in a statement. “We believe UMB will play a key role in shaping a vibrant, dynamic destination that serves both businesses and the community for years to come.”
The bank plans to maintain its downtown presence. It’s also building a new branch in Bonnie Brae, set to open in 2027.
