In 2016, business partners Gabrielle David, MJ “Sutton” Spanton and Dr. Ashley Sides acquired Animal Emergency Care Centers (AECC), a nights and weekend ER practice in Colorado Springs. They shared a goal of achieving unparalleled standards in veterinary care, and the acquisition served as the foundation of Animal ER Care LLC (AERC). In the spring of 2019 the practice expanded the hours of this original location to 24/7. After seeing a surge in pet ownership in 2020 during COVID, AERC opened its second location in October of 2022. Both facilities have earned the prestigious AAHA certification.
AERC leverages technology so it can better serve its animal patients, implementing Microsoft Teams for communication, online forms for paperless processing, and remote diagnostic consultations. A robust administrative team enables the medical team to concentrate exclusively on patient care without the administrative burdens that often accompany veterinary practices.
The company culture is defined by kindness, compassion and integrity to patients and their owners. In the veterinary field, compassion fatigue can be a challenge, and requires a strong support system. Among AERC’s community collaborations are Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, MyBalto Foundation, which works to alleviate pet owners’ financial stress and eliminate “financial euthanasia,” Lasting Paws Pet Memorial Service Angel Fund and more.
