DENVER — Colorado’s population exceeded 6 million for the first time, according to vintage population estimates released Wednesday.

In Brief:
  • reached 6,012,561 as of July 1, 2025
  • Census data shows a 0.92% year-over-year population increase
  • Births rose 4.6% marking the highest level since 2017
  • State leaders cite housing, workforce and education priorities

The estimates show the state’s population reached 6,012,561 as of July 1, 2025. Revised figures for prior years indicate a 0.92% year-over-year increase from the previously published July 1, 2024, estimate of 5,957,493.

Gov. Jared Polis said the new data reflect continued population growth in Colorado despite slower growth nationwide.

Polis acknowledged that population growth can place pressure on housing costs but said state policies aimed at increasing home construction have helped stabilize rents and home prices while expanding housing supply.

The governor said the administration remains focused on , , education access and public safety.

Polis also pointed to crime data released earlier this year showing decreases across multiple categories in 2025 compared with the same period in 2024. The report compared crime levels from January through June in both years.

Census Bureau data also shows Colorado recorded 65,380 births between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025. That marked a 4.6% increase from the prior year and the highest number of births in the state since 2017.

State officials said continued investments are being made in early childhood education and K-12 schools, including universal preschool and full-day kindergarten programs.
