Denver-based Altra released the Vanish Carbon 3, a road racing shoe featuring a split carbon plate designed to allow forefoot movement.
The shoe’s patent-pending plate separates at the big toe while providing stiffness and propulsion. It also uses Altra’s FAST RCE supercritical PEBA foam, a wide toe box and an eyestay system intended to secure the midfoot without restricting the toes.
“Every element of the Vanish Carbon 3 was designed to work in harmony with the actual shape of the foot,” Kylee Barton, head of product at Altra, said.
In laboratory testing, the Vanish Carbon 3 improved running economy by 2.6% compared with the previous version, the company said. World Athletics has approved the shoe for road racing.
The Vanish Carbon 3 has a 4 mm heel-to-toe drop, with a 40 mm heel and 36 mm forefoot stack. A men’s size 10 weighs 7.7 ounces, while a women’s size 8 weighs 6.7 ounces.
Altra parent VF Corp. reported the brand’s revenue increased 45% in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 and more than 30% for the full year, exceeding $270 million.
The Vanish Carbon 3 became available Aug. 18 for $240 through Altra’s website and selected retailers. Altra plans to introduce the Vanish Tempo 2 plated training shoe in September.
