DENVER — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $800,000 through its Small Business Innovation Research program to two companies in Colorado and Wyoming to develop environmental technologies.
PAGE Technologies Inc. of Boulder received a $400,000 Phase II grant to improve the accuracy of its electrochemical nitrate sensor technology for detecting contamination at wastewater treatment plants. The company said the technology offers a compact, cost-effective alternative to existing systems and is designed for long-term, in-place deployment with real-time monitoring.
“Small businesses are driving the next generation of environmental technologies, and these Region 8 awardees are leading that effort,” EPA Regional Administrator Cyrus Western said. “These grants recognize innovation and help advance technologies that address real-world environmental challenges while supporting jobs, American ingenuity and long-term economic growth throughout our region.”
The second $400,000 Phase II grant was awarded to Acadian Research & Development LLC of Laramie, Wyoming. The company is developing a biochar-derived graphene oxide additive to improve concrete strength and durability while reducing CO2 emissions.
The EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research program is a competitive federal initiative that helps small businesses develop and commercialize new technologies. This year’s awards support projects focused on environmental challenges, including water quality monitoring, PFAS contamination, indoor air quality, recycling systems and safer chemicals.
