BOULDER, Colo. — The City of Boulder opened applications Wednesday for funding to support community events recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day in 2026.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through 4 p.m. Sept. 21. Materials are available in English and Spanish on the city’s website.
The Human Relations Fund and Boulder’s Office of Arts and Culture will jointly provide funding for events that recognize the cultures, histories and contributions of Indigenous people in the Boulder community.
Eligible events may include dances, poetry readings, educational programs, film screenings and performances.
Boulder designated the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day through a resolution the City Council adopted in 2016. The resolution also directs the city to collaborate with American Indian tribal nations and address omissions of Indigenous history in public places, resources and cultural programs.
In 2026, the Human Relations Fund supports community-organized events associated with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Juneteenth, Immigrant Heritage Month, and Indigenous Peoples Day. Projects must address civil rights, human rights or equity issues, encourage civic participation or provide cultural and educational opportunities.
