AURORA — Waste Management on Thursday opened its Denver East sustainability campus in Aurora, expanding capacity as Colorado rolls out its new statewide producer responsibility program for paper and packaging.

Gov. Jared Polis attended the opening after participating in the facility’s groundbreaking in 2024.

The new campus is intended to increase access to recycling for Colorado residents and support the state’s waste reduction efforts under the Extended Producer Responsibility program established by .

“This Waste Management campus is a major step forward for sustainability in Colorado,” Polis said. “As Colorado continues to transition to Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging and paper products, expand recycling to all residents and work to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions, investments in sustainability infrastructure like WM is making here in Denver support our state’s important goals.”

Colorado’s producer responsibility program for paper and packaging launched this year and provides free, statewide recycling services to residents. The Colorado Circular Communities Enterprise, created by , has awarded 63 grants since 2025 to help communities, businesses, and schools expand recycling and support circular-economy initiatives.

The opening also comes as the released its final greenhouse gas report this month, outlining the state’s progress toward emissions reduction goals.

Waste Management officials said the Denver East campus is expected to expand recycling access while supporting efforts to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions across the state.
